How we chose the image for Flying Fish

You don’t really think about logos when you think about living on a sailboat. It’s clearly not a commercial enterprise (and if it was, it would be a REALLY bad one!) But every boat has a name and most have an image that is associated with it.

At first we spent a lot of time working with artists and scanning through public domain and purchased line-art for a logo, but nothing really grabbed us. Ultimately we chose an image that we’ve really liked for a long time and worked with a talented friend here in Porto Monenegro to make alterations to it that are hopefully sufficient to make it unique, if not derivative art.

This image captures everything we like about the Flying Fish name. Flying Fish are like sailboats – they are propelled by their wings as they move through the sea. Poseidon’s Trident adds an element of mystery, intrigue, and adventure as well. And the simple line drawing will look great on the side of the boat!
